One of the most difficult things about being a tutor is coming up with extra material in a pinch. There will be times a student doesn't have any school work to do or finishes the other items that you had ready quickly.
For reading, I keep a few things with in reach. One of them is Spectrum Reading Books. These are leveled books with phonics lessons in them. They are worksheet based, but I do not use the worksheets. What I am using inside these books are the words and order of lessons.
For example, I can open the book and find a lesson on silent e words. I then use the lists of words they have and use them with my Brain Tower game, a file folder game, or even copy a page out of a book we're reading together and ask them to find all the words with a silent e.
It's a good idea to keep references on hand. What do you like to keep close by when you are tutoring?
