Tutoring Office Part 1

I am so embarrassed to show you my before picture of my office!  I wish you could see my face as I am writing this...ruffled eyebrow...a smirk...it seriously is SO messy and disorganized. You have to see the pain in my face!  I know-it's strange but I took a picture of it.

I feel like we are friends, so I can tell you about how awful my office really was.  When I first started tutoring, I thought this would be plenty of space and it would work for ever.  As my library of resources grew and grew, I ran out of places to keep the books.  They frequently would fall over on and there was no organization.  It was difficult to find anything.

My computer was on a separate desk and if I needed to use it during tutoring, we would both roll our chairs around the room.  There wasn't much space on the tutoring desk for our materials.  To add to the chaos of this room, it's in the basement and there are these weird ledges that they didn't frame in.  Just sheet rocked over the top!  So putting things in this room have always been strange.

I talked it over with my husband and we decided we needed a more functional space because I spend most of my day in there tutoring, blogging, and working for Laura.  It should be a happy place!  I drew out a giant L-shaped desk that would go around the perimeter of the room.  He helped me engineer it just right.

I have had a slight fetish with chevron pattern (that means zig zag like Charlie Brown's shirt).  I made plans to do one giant chevron wall in one of my favorite colors, teal.  My office also faces North and doesn't get any direct sunlight.  I made plans to paint the walls an off-white color and to chose white cabinetry.

Here is my awesome husband working away with my oldest.  In this picture he is installing the counter that he laminated in a slate grey color.  It took us 3 very long days over Thanksgiving.  Stay tuned for another post showing you the final tutor office and some of the projects I did to get it a happy place to be.
