5 Reasons to Create a Facebook Fan Page for Your Tutor Business

I joined Facebook in 2011...I know-embarrassing!  There is still a little part of me that despises it because it is so easy to lose track of time checking out what others are up to these days.  Some say that Facebook is on it's way out, but if you look at the ages of who is using this social media, it's clear that it still has relevance with your student's parents.  Most parents are also comfortable with their children being on Facebook.  This means that you have an opportunity to market to current and future clients.

There are many reasons why you should be on Facebook, but I will just touch on five of them.  If you are unsure of how to start a Facebook fan/business page, simply do an Internet search and you'll find plenty of helpful tutorials to walk you through the process.

1.  Free

Hands down this makes it very appealing.  Tutors do not have a lot of money to market their businesses and it is a definite bonus that this social media is free to use.  There are apps that you can pay for that will enhance your page but even most of those are free until you reach a certain amount of followers.

2.  Gathering Place

Both parents and children are connecting on Facebook.  They like to click like, comment, and share things that are of interest to them.  When you create an engaging fan page, your current students will do those very actions which help you to show up in more people's newsfeeds.  This simply means that others will be able to see what your tutor business is all about.

3.  Drives Traffic

When first starting your own website, you have to drive traffic to it so that it can show up higher in search results.  Telling fans on your page about your website and linking to it will help with this.  Make sure to add your website URL to your ABOUT description.  This helps parents and students easily find  your website.

4.  Testimonials

Because of Facebook's built ability for others to see what you comment on or like, others will be able to see when a student or parent rave about your amazing tutoring services.  They can tag you in the comment which gives you the opportunity to show some gratitude and deepen your fans understanding of your caring attitude.

5.  Your Brand

You can upload images that complement your website and help strengthen your brand.  There is so much to a brand!  Mostly, it is about you  -  the tutor  -  how you treat others, how you tell them about current promotions, how you cheer on your students, etc.  They look at how professional you are both on the computer and with their child.

When you get your page up and going, you may wonder what to do next.  You'll want to get into a consistent posting schedule.  I know this sounds strange, but when a parent lands on your fan page and discovers you haven't posted in six months, most will assume that you are out of business.  Your focus should be to post at least once a week.

I recently wrote a mini eBook to help tutors get engaging content on their Facebook Fan pages.  You can purchase it from my shop.
