Google Places is certainly very useful. I have my business listed for more than two years and I really think it helps in my business operations.

All we have to do is know that they exist. For people starting with their business, free stuff like this should not be ignored. The use of social media, too, will be a great help, especially if you're just starting to look for customers. Even big businesses have social media marketing strategies. You might be wondering why they are giving time to this kind of technique when they are already well-established. Well, that's simply because they want to stay in the business.
